Growing up mixed Latino, in a country that lacks Latin visibility, seems like a trivial issue. Growing up, I committed to becoming the same as my white peers, thinking it was the only way to have a sense of belonging. In recent years, I have felt comfortable in celebrating my Bolivian side, and meeting others from similar backgrounds in unlikely places. Through ‘Los Otros’, I delve into my own cultural identity and Bolivian roots, scrutinising why Scotland and the UK, in general, have limited visibility and understanding of the Latin American community. ‘Los Otros’ is a love story to the vibrant, diverse and blooming Latinx community that continues to grow in Scotland.
